The Cortis Group of Companies was founded in 1948 when Emmanuel Cortis, born in 1926 in the rural village of Zebbug on the Mediterranean island of Malta opened a woodworking and joinery shop in Zebbug, Malta. With the help of his sons, the firm began to grow. From joinery, the company shifted solely to the manufacture of classical furniture. Timber began to be imported for distribution and retailing.
The company also looked into other business areas to diversify its operations. During the nineties, Cortis Group acquired the pioneer company in the aluminium and glazing sector in Malta and also entered the optical dispensing business.
With the advent of a new millennium, the Group continued to grow by entering other business fields. Today it is involved in the importation and retailing of aluminum profiles and also in property development, specializing in the planning and undertaking of construction projects.
Emmanuel has now retired, and his six sons (Anthony, Francis, Philip, Joseph, Raymond, Paul) today manage and direct Cortis Group together.
The Cortis Group of Companies has grown to become one of the major medium-sized enterprises on the island.
In 2007 Cortis Group established a Youth Family Council to introduce the business to the next generation and involve them in the Group' s Strategies.
The Group Head Office is situated on Mdina Road, Zebbug, Malta.
